history
In the years 1257 and 1264 a Cunradus de Sterrenberc sealed two documents as a witness. However, it is not clear whether this Conradus is connected with Sterrenberg Castle . It was not until 1357 that the castle was first clearly mentioned in a document. In 1420, Simond von Breidenborn's widow handed over the “castle frame” to her eldest son, Johann the boy from Breidenborn.
Karl von Breidenborn and his wife, Eva von Rittenhofen , were enfeoffed with the "Burgstadel" in 1457. In 1484, the Sterrenberg was awarded by the Speyer bishop Ludwig to the Lauterer bailiff , Hans von Flörsheim . In 1605 the castle was already described as a ruined palace. In 1655 the "Burgstadel" was assigned to the Kirrweiler conductor Johann Klesinger. The Burgstall was ceded to Damian Hartard von der Leyen in 1656 .
During the Battle of Morlautern in 1793 an artillery position was built on the Schloßberg. In 1884 Christian Mehlis explored the complex for the first time and suspected a Roman or Franconian castle wall.
