Burghard Ciesla

Burghard Ciesla (born November 25, 1958 as Burghard Schmidt ; † January 29, 2020 in Berlin ) was a German historian .

Life

Ciesla worked at the Leibniz Center for Contemporary History until 2000 . During this time he wrote his habilitation with the title When the East drove through the West: The history of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in West Berlin. From 2000 Ciesla worked as a freelance contemporary historian and was involved in numerous research and exhibitions. He was an employee of the “Independent Scientific Commission at the Federal Ministry of Justice to come to terms with the Nazi past” (so-called Rosenburg Commission ).
