Burghaus Zarten

The Burghaus Zarten is a castle house in Zarten (Bundesstrasse 8), a current district of the Kirchzarten community in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district in Baden-Württemberg .

The tower-like castle house built in the 13th or 14th century was mentioned in 1420 in a document with the Freiburg mayor Paulus von Riehein as a fiefdom holder of the St. Märgen monastery . From 1502 at the latest, the tower was owned by the city of Freiburg. The inhabited four-storey tower house on a rectangular floor plan with a steep roof gable shows humpback blocks and later additions at the corners .
