Burgrest Neuwaldsee

Burgrest Neuwaldsee , colloquially also called Burgstock , describes the ruins of a hilltop castle above the Urbachtal at 685  m above sea level. NN southeast of the district Mittelurbach of the city of Bad Waldsee in the Ravensburg district in Baden-Württemberg .

The castle was built at the beginning of the 13th century by the lords of Waldsee (Gebehardus and Chunradus de Walchsé) and was first mentioned on February 7, 1331 as "Newe Waltse" castle . For a long time it was thought that the castle was destroyed by an earthquake in 1348. But the castle was actually blown up by Franciscan monks in 1649. The stones were needed to build a monastery in Bad Waldsee. At this point the castle was already in ruins. Small remains of the former castle complex are still preserved.
