The Postal Altenburg is an Outbound hilltop castle on the Altenburger Kogel in southern Lower Austria near the village Rotheau in Lilienfeld .

history

Altenburg was built by Konrad von Hohenstaff after he and his brother Leutold had lost their old headquarters, the Staffburg near St. Veit an der Gölsen . Duke Leopold VI. had let them slide and donated the Staff Stift Lilienfeld . With the construction of Altenburg, Konrad von Hohenstaff (later known as Konrad von Altenburg ) became the founder of the Altenburg family.

However, the brothers and their families only lived in their new seat for a short time. After its construction in the early 13th century , it was already in ruins at the beginning of the 14th century . This was because the Altenburgers had received Wildegg Castle through a marriage in 1261 and moved there. The descendants of Leutold von Hohenstaff / Altenburg did not live on Altenburg either, as they founded their own noble family, the Hohenbergers, with the establishment of Hohenberg Castle .

By the end of the 14th century at the latest, Altenburg was no longer owned by the Hohenstaff-Altenburg-Hohenberg ministerial family . It is known for the year 1386 that Hans the Alachter had sold the Meierhof under the Altenburg to Ulrich von Pergau.

The records of Altenburg end in 1388.

At that time, Lilienfeld Abbey had received Altenburg as a ruin, but the monks of the monastery left it to deteriorate until the walls had completely disappeared.

From 1860 to 1901 the Burgstall was owned by the Enk family. It was later taken over by the Singer family. This sold him in 1930 to the Kinderfreunde .

In 1947 the Burgstall came to the Lower Austria regional group of the SPÖ Free School Kinderfreunde.
