Burgstall Schwabegg

Schwabegg , also popularly known as the Schlosskogel , is an abandoned medieval hilltop castle between Texing and Frankenfels in the Mostviertel in Lower Austria .

Geographical location

The castle site is between Texingtal (upper Mank ) and Weißenbachtal , a side valley of the Pielach valley , on the border between the Texingtal village of St. Gotthard and the Frankenfelser Tiefgrabenrotte . It is located at the end of the ditch, at the foot of the Bichlberg  ( 859  m above sea level ) at about 760  m above sea level. A. Height. Not far from the pass ( E4 / 652 ) is the Schwabeck Cross (a baroque wayside shrine).

The ruin is located in the Texingtaler municipality (cadastral municipality St. Gotthard).

history

In the 13th century there is a Henricus Suevus de Tessingen ('Heinrich [the] Swabian of Texing', * unknown, † 1227), whose date of death is considered the first documentary mention. He was married to a Berta von Sooss . A Ditricus de Swobsek (Dietrich von Schwabegg) is mentioned in 1297 . In 1367 Konrad von Sooß sold the St. Gotthard property - and probably also the festivals - to the St. Pölten Cathedral, Ulrich Feyertager. The residence is likely to have been abandoned as early as the 14th century, but in 1658 people still speak of the "desolate fortress Schwabegg". Since then it has almost completely collapsed, but due to its remote location, it did not fall victim to stone robbery.
