Schwabeck Cross, detail

The Schwabeck Cross (also Schwabegg Cross ) is a wayside shrine in Lower Austria , which was erected in 1647 by the Viennese cathedral provost Johann Augustin Zwerger .

location

The Schwabeck Cross is located on the border of political districts Melk and St. Pölten on the hill northwest of the in Frankenfels lying homestead Schwabeck (also Schwabegg) in the deep grave rotting already on Santa's Gottharder (municipality Texingtal ) area.

It is located on several national hiking trails and international long-distance hiking trails , for example on the Großer Pielachtaler Rundwanderweg 652 and the European long-distance hiking trail E4 as well as several mountain bike trails.

Behind the Schwabeckkreuz was the Schwabegg castle stable , which fell into disrepair after 1367. Only a tiny remnant of the former rock castle has survived.

The Grüntalkogelhütte  ( 886  m above sea level ) is about 45 minutes' walk away.

meaning

Back of the Schwabeck cross

The area around the Schwabeck cross or the Traumos also served as a retreat from the Turks , where it remained undiscovered.

The Schwabeck Cross serves as a place of worship for many pilgrims , as a wandering plague of locusts from the west is said to have ended here and therefore spared the Pielach Valley .
