The Dargun castle wall is a Slavic castle wall that is located in the Dargun municipality in the Mecklenburg Lake District .
The ground monument is located in a remote location northwest of the village on an extensive spur of the terrain . It is an old Slavic hilltop castle with three ramparts and a smaller main castle . It existed from the 7th to 10th centuries, as ceramic finds show, and was located in the tribal area of the Wilzen during this time . In the main castle there are now the remains of a Jewish cemetery from the 18th century. In the area of the outermost bailey there are barrows from the Bronze Age . Why the Slavs included them in their castle complex will probably remain unknown forever. In the 12th century, a Slavic castle for Dargun was mentioned in connection with Danish military campaigns, which was destroyed. It is not yet known whether this meant the old Slavic hilltop castle or another younger castle complex on the site of the castle in Dargun. The fact that older Slavic ramparts were briefly repopulated in the 12th century can already be proven for other castles.
