Government of the Republic of Estonia under State Elder Friedrich Karl Akel (Akel Cabinet). Term of office: March 26, 1924 to December 16, 1924.

The Akel government was officially the 12th government of the Republic of Estonia since independence was proclaimed in 1918. It remained in office for 266 days. It included representatives of the Kristlik Rahvaerakond (Christian People's Party, KRE), Eesti Tööerakond (Estonian Labor Party, ETE) and the Eesti Rahvaerakond (Estonian People's Party, ER) as well as non-party ministers.

Attempted coup on December 1, 1924

On December 1, 1924, the Estonian Communist Party attempted to put itself to power in a bloody coup against the Akel government. She received support from the Soviet Union .

In the early morning of December 1st, the communist insurgents attacked the residence of the state elder on Tallinn Toompea , the parliament and government seat, the war ministry, Estonian police and army units and infrastructure facilities. Transport Minister Karl Kark was by the insurgents on the Baltic station of Tallinn shot. The uprising collapsed that same day.

After the failure of the communist coup attempt, the new state elder, Jüri Jaakson , formed a bipartisan government of national unity on December 16, 1924 .
