The Strandman government was officially the 19th government of the Republic of Estonia since independence was proclaimed in 1918. It remained in office for 585 days.
From May 11 to May 13, 1929, the elections for the fourth legislative period of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ) took place, which met for the first time on July 2, 1929. On June 29, 1929, based on the election results, the previous government of August Rei resigned.
The Estonian Ambassador in Warsaw and former Prime Minister Otto Strandman formed a new government on July 9th. She owned the Eesti Tööerakond (Estonian Labor Party, ETE), the Kristlik Rahvaerakond (Christian People's Party, KRE), the Põllumeeste Kogud (Association of Farmers, PK), the Eesti Rahvaerakond (Estonian People's Party, ER) and the Asunikud party , riigirentnikud väikepõllupidajad (“Settlers, State Tenants and Smallholders”, ARV).
A comprehensive reform of the ministries began on July 1st. The Ministry of Economic Affairs was created from the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Finance. The Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of the Interior were merged.
