Government of the Republic of Estonia under Prime Minister Jaan Tõnisson (Tõnisson I cabinet). Term of office: November 18, 1919 to July 28, 1920.

According to official counts, the Tõnisson government was the fifth government of the Republic of Estonia since independence was declared in 1918. It remained in office for 254 days.

After the failure of Prime Minister Otto Strandman's government , Jaan Tõnisson tried to bring about a broad coalition in the constituent assembly ( Asutav Kogu ). His partners ranged from right-wing nationalists to Estonian socialists. The three-party government consisted of

The main tasks of the government were to rebuild the Estonian economy after the First World War and to end the " Estonian War of Freedom " against Soviet Russia . The war ended on February 2, 1920 with the Tartu Peace Treaty . Estonia emerged from it as the winner. Soviet Russia recognized the independence of Estonia "forever", committed itself to the return of gold stocks and cultural goods and had to cede areas of land in northeast and southeast Estonia to the young republic.

On July 1, 1920, the Estonian Social Democrats decided to withdraw their ministers from the government. This broke up the governing coalition.
