investment

The remains of the castle ramparts are located about 1.7 kilometers east of the village of Elslaake and 1.6 kilometers north of the village of Witzke in a drained lowland, which was previously a swampy wetland. The Burgstall is almost circular and wooded or bushy . The interior of the castle is about 1 to 1.5 meters above the surrounding level, the surrounding wall is about half a meter high. The inner area has a diameter of 42 to 45 meters, while the wall is another 8 to 11 meters wide. The surrounding moat is about 7 meters wide. It is about half a meter below the surrounding level. An open place in the wall in the northwest was interpreted as the former gate of the castle. Another fault in the northeast is likely recent . An open outer bailey settlement is said to have been located from southwest to southeast . This had an area of about one hectare. A relatively large number of traces of settlement were discovered in the southeastern outer bailey. Abundant early Slavic finds such as ceramics have been secured. The ceramics found are grossly leaner , only badly burned and usually without ornamentation. Based on the finds, the castle could be dated to the 7th or 8th century. Already in the 8th or 9th century but was again abandoned .
