The Quadenschönfeld castle wall is a ground monument near Quadenschönfeld , a district of the municipality of Möllenbeck in the Mecklenburg Lake District .

location

The Slavic castle wall is located directly on an old railway embankment on a natural hill on the northern edge of the Schlavenkental . There is also a silted-up lake there. The embankment leads from a restaurant on the road from Stargard Castle to Stolpe directly to the castle complex . This can be reached on foot from the road after about 1.5 kilometers on the dam in the direction of the forest. Shortly before the high-lying embankment crosses the former lake, the 2 hectare castle wall is on the left above a hill.

Castle complex

The castle dates from the 8th to 9th centuries. It consists of a bailey with two large visible gates and a main castle . The rampart of the outer bailey is around 100 meters long and slightly arched. In front of the wall there is a ditch up to 7 meters wide, some of which still contains water. The walls are still up to 4 meters high today.

Not far from the rampart of the outer bailey is the rampart of the main castle. It has almost the same appearance and the same dimensions as the rampart of the outer bailey. Clear gate systems can hardly be seen here, but they must have existed. The entire castle complex was a Wilzian hilltop castle , which was naturally protected on three sides by steep embankments.
