Burhafe (South Brookmerland)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Burhafe is a former church village in the municipality of Südbrookmerland , which was first given the name Burhoff in 1475 . The place name means church of a peasantry .

history

When Brookmerland emerged as an autonomous state municipality in the 13th century, it was divided into three central districts, each with two main churches: Marienhafe and Engerhafe , Bedekaspel and Südwolde (today's Blaukirchen ) as well as Wiegboldsbur and Burhafe. In the 14th century, the collapse of the Leybucht led to major drainage problems in the area of Burhafe. The lowlands came increasingly under water and the Great Sea expanded. As a result, the village of Burhafe, which was still part of the Ihlow Monastery around 1500 , gradually had to be abandoned. Today only individual farms remain in the Victorburer Marsch , which have been listed as Klein and Groß Burhafe since 1735 . They belong to the district of Uthwerdum .
