Burk is a district of the Seeg municipality in the Bavarian district of Ostallgäu . It is located in the northeast of Seeg and borders on the neighboring community of Roßhaupten .
history
The place is mentioned for the first time in 1316 as a Hochstiftisch-Augsburg property with "ze der Burch". At that time it consisted of six farms. In 1812/1813 13 houses belonged to the place.
Burgstall
The name of the settlement is the Burgstall Burk to the west of it . With its well-preserved ring moat around a frustoconical embankment, it is one of the most vivid examples of a hilltop castle in Bavaria.
Iodine source
At the end of the 19th century, Ferdinand Musch discovered a spring containing iodine near Burk , which he purchased in 1892. He administered drinking cures there and shipped the iodine water in bottles. After Musch's death, his heirs sold the spring for 20,000 Reichsmarks to Tölz-AG , which had a brewhouse with a manager's apartment built there.
