Burka Avenger is a Pakistani animated television series . The main character is a burqa- wearing superhero who fights crime. The series was conceived by the London pop singer Aaron Haroon Rashid , called Haroon, who, with the support of an anonymous co-financier, bears the majority of the production costs and is also allowed to advertise his music in the individual episodes.

content

Burka Avenger is set in the fictional city of Halwapur in northern Pakistan . The main character is the teacher Jiya, who uses a burqa to hide her identity while fighting crime. As an aid, she uses things from her everyday life, including pens and books.

The program makes an educational claim. Each episode of the first season focuses on a different topic, such as the right to education, including for girls, or criticism of corrupt politicians, superstition and child labor.

Production and publication

The series was produced by the Unicorn Black studio under the direction of Uzair Zaheer Khan . Adi Abdurab wrote the script . The 13 episodes have been broadcast since July 28, 2013 by Geo Tez in Pakistan.

reception

The content of the series is viewed critically by conservatives in particular. Women's rights activists are also ambivalent about the fact that a piece of clothing like the burqa has a positive connotation.

However, the show is very popular among Pakistani children, regardless of gender. It is already a multimedia brand and has resulted in an iPhone game, video clips and a music album with the participation of various Pakistani musicians. Haroon plans to market the series internationally.
