BCT85

The types BCT70 and BCT85 were two variants of a series of Panamax bulk carriers or tank bulk carriers that were built by the Copenhagen shipyard Burmeister & Wain from 1991 .

details

The ship's design had been developed for variable worldwide use and could optionally be commissioned in the construction version as a pure bulk carrier, as a tank bulk carrier for the transport of bulk goods, ore or crude oil or as a product tanker, whereby the construction from the outset for a later conversion the basic variant was designed as a combined ship. The deckhouse was located far aft over the engine room. As a bulk carrier, the ships had nine holds and a carrying capacity of around 75,000 tons.

The type BCT70 was initially designed in a single-hull design and was redesigned due to the new requirements of the US Oil Pollution Act 1990 with otherwise the same basic dimensions to the 18-meter-longer type BCT85 with two-meter double hull and slightly higher load capacity.

The propulsion of the ships consisted of a five-cylinder two-stroke marine diesel engine of the type MAN B&W 5S60MC with an output of around 10,000 hp, which delivered its power directly to the individual fixed propellers and enabled a speed of around 15  knots . Auxiliary and emergency diesels were available for the energy supply .
