Burmese (1962–1990) was a black mare that Queen Elizabeth II received from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police . Elisabeth II rode the mare in the annual military parade ' Trooping the Color ' from 1969 to 1986 for 18 consecutive years, although the royal family usually appears with white horses at Trooping the Color .

Burmese was raised at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Remount Ranch in Fort Walsh, Saskatchewan . She was trained in Ottawa and given to the Queen in 1969 when representatives of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police were visiting the UK to perform at the Royal Windsor Horse Show .

The Queen was riding Burmese when a youth fired six blank shots during the 1981 Trooping-the-Color military parade. Though the steed was startled, the queen managed to regain control.

Burmese's last public appearance was in the 1986 Trooping the Color military parade, after which she was retired. It was not replaced because the Queen decided to drive in a Phaeton from now on and to take the troop parade from a podium.

Burmese came to pasture in the park at Windsor Castle . She died there in 1990. Both Burmese and Centenial were trained for the Queen by RCMP Staff Sergeant Fred Rasmussen.

In honor of Elizabeth II's 50th year of reign, the province of Saskatchewan commissioned the sculptor Susan Velder to design a larger than life bronze statue of Her Majesty on her favorite Burmese horse . In 2005, the bronze statue of the Queen was unveiled in front of the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly building in Regina , Canada .
