Busanjin-gu ( Korean 부산진구 ) is one of the 16 districts of Busan . It is one of the central districts of the city. The district borders the Buk-gu , Dongnae-gu , Yeonje-gu , Nam-gu , Dong-gu , Seo-gu and Sasang-gu districts in a clockwise direction and is considered to be the center of the city's financial, commercial and transportation facilities with large markets, a variety of shopping malls and entertainment options.

Busanjin-gu consists of 11 dong (sub-districts), with all but Beomjeon-dong, Yeonji-dong and Choeup-dong being divided into further dong. The district thus has a total of 25 dong.

history

When the Korean War broke out in 1950, the United States Armed Forces set up Camp Hialeah as the base command for the area around Busan and built it on a site in the districts of Beomjeon, Yeonji and Yangjeong. The area was used by Japan during the occupation of Korea as a racing track and training ground for the mounted troops of the Imperial Japanese Army .
