Buschi (orangutan)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Buschi (born around 1959 ; † January 21, 2011 ) was a male orangutan . When he died, he was one of the last orangutans to have been caught in the wild from Sumatra and entered European zoos.

Life

Buschi came to Stuttgart Wilhelma on July 1, 1962 at the age of around three and a half , where he was to live for over 48 years. During this time he fathered seven offspring, six of them with Suma, who died in 1994. Two daughters and one of Buschi's granddaughters were still at Wilhelma when Buschi had to be euthanized at the age of around 51 due to a malignant tumor in the upper jaw.

Buschi, who survived five of his children, was one of the oldest orangutans recorded in the EEP and at the time of his death the " longest -serving" animal in Wilhelma. His body was given to the Rosenstein Museum.

Namesake

Another orangutan named Buschi (actually Bushman), who lives in Osnabrück Zoo , owed a package in July 2011 to a research error by the Galileo Big Pictures editorial team at Pro 7 . After he was declared dead due to a mix-up with the Stuttgart Buschi, the editors apologized with an autograph card from Aiman Abdallah and some delicacies from the primate. Buschi from Osnabrück became known for his interest in paint and brushes; his products made with watercolors are sold by the zoo to support conservation projects.
