Long-distance buses in the Vienna bus terminal

The bus Vienna is located on the Olympic course in the 2nd Viennese district Leopoldstadt , next to the shopping center Stadion Center , where a parking garage is located. It is operated by Austrotouring Verkehrsbetriebe , which belongs to the Gschwindl group. The Ferry-Dusika-Stadion , the Ernst-Happel-Stadion and the Stadion underground station are located near the bus station .

history

As part of the extension of underground line 2 to the stadium, tram line 21 running parallel to the underground was closed in 2008. On the former route of the tram line, a lane for taxis and buses (line 77A) as well as the Stadion Center bus parking lot was built. In July 2013 this was expanded to become a bus station and now serves as a hub for European long-distance bus services . In addition to the long-distance bus lines, there are also some regional lines, e.g. B. the airport bus. The bus terminal has 8 bus platforms, each 15 meters long. The bus station takes up about half of the area. On the other half, in the rear area, there are bus parking spaces. A total of around 30 buses can be parked on the site.

The underground line U2 and the bus lines 11A and 77A are in the immediate vicinity of the terminal . Alongside the Vienna International Bus Terminal , which opened in 2007, and the bus station at Südtiroler Platz , the Vienna Bus Terminal is one of three long-distance bus stations in Vienna.

New construction of the central bus terminal

In March 2019, Transport Councilor Maria Vassilakou (Greens) and Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) announced the construction of a new central bus terminal for Vienna near the Ferry Dusika Stadium, which is expected to start operations after a five-year construction period. The background to this was the hitherto unsatisfactory situation at the Vienna bus terminal and the Vienna International bus terminal in Vienna-Erdberg, as well as the lack of a central bus terminal in the federal capital, which turned out to be particularly disadvantageous for passengers transferring. In addition to the new construction of the main train station and the renovation of the Vienna-Schwechat airport , the central bus terminal is one of three major transport construction projects in Vienna.
