Busua
The fishing and bathing resort of Busua is located in the Ahanta West district of the western region of Ghana , about 30 kilometers west of the regional capital Sekondi-Takoradi on the Gulf of Guinea . Busua is classified in the category of localities with more than 5000 inhabitants and can be easily reached via an asphalt road from Sekondi. The residents speak Ahanta .
Busua has a tradition dating back to the 1960s as a seaside resort for wealthy Sekondi-Takoradi locals . Some European tourists also came here in the 1970s and 1980s, although there was no electricity or running water until the late 1990s. A small bungalow complex was the only tourist infrastructure, where electricity was occasionally provided by a generator on weekends. At the beginning of the 1990s, the place as well as the entire surrounding coastal area was affected by a palm disease, which led to the death of all coconut trees here . What remains is a long sandy beach on a stretch of coast that is free from dangerous currents.
In recent years, the place has not only received electricity, but also restaurants, a shopping center and a number of lodges and bungalow complexes in the upper price range.
From Busua you can walk to the west in a good 25 minutes to the fishing village of Dixcove with its old, originally British fortress Fort Metal Cross . To the east you can walk to the small town of Butre with its former Dutch fortress Fort Batenstein in about the same time .
