Jojo Cobbinah

Jojo Cobbinah (born May 25, 1948 in Bogoso north of Tarkwa , Western Region ) is a Ghanaian author of travel guides who lives in Ghana.

Cobbinah attended a Catholic school in his native country and studied in Cape Coast (Ghana), Abidjan (Ivory Coast) and Dijon (France). From 1974 to 2009 he lived in Germany, first in West Berlin, and later in different places in the northern Rhine-Main area. In 2010 he returned to Ghana, but continues to commute to Europe as a consultant and tutor for intercultural cooperation.

Cobbinah has become known as the author of travel guides about Senegal / Gambia and Madeira , but above all for his extensive travel guide to his home country Ghana. Initially he published in English. The eleventh edition of his Ghana travel guide has now been published in German. It is regarded as a standard work in German-speaking countries and was highlighted in a study for the German UNESCO commission as one of the best travel guides to an African country.

Together with the former press spokesman for the Frankfurt Book Fair, Holger Ehling, he wrote West African cooking . He also worked on a work on South Africa (Barbi Lasar, South Africa: The Cape Region).

He writes a regular column on politics and book reviews in the English-language magazine African Courier . In 2003 he developed the first package tour offer for Ghana for Ghana Airways . Cobbinah is currently working on a historical novel about Anton Wilhelm Amo (around 1700–1753), the first African from sub-Saharan Africa to study in Germany.
