Ghana Airways was Ghana's national airline from 1958 to 2004, based in Accra and based at Kotoka International Airport there .
history
The airline was founded on July 4, 1958 and began operations on July 15, 1958. She was to take over the domestic and international service of West African Airways . The domestic routes were discontinued in September 1991.
At the beginning of the 2000s, Ghana Airways chartered an Airbus A330 from the Canadian company SkyService Airlines and a McDonnell Douglas MD-11 from the US American World Airways for operations to North America. At the end of 2003, a DC-10 failed because the company could no longer meet its maintenance obligations. As a result, Ghana Airways had to cancel a large part of its long-haul flights until it acquired a DC-10 from Hawaiian Airlines .
From July 28, 2004, Ghana Airways was banned from flights to the USA because the company was unable to meet the safety requirements. Ticket sales were stopped on August 13, 2004.
Ghana Airways subsequently ceased all activities and was replaced by Ghana International Airlines , a public-private partnership company that has also been insolvent since May 2010 .
Destinations
Ghana Airways flew to North America , Europe , Africa , and the Middle East . Until the end of flight operations, there were direct flights to Hamburg and Düsseldorf in Germany .
