The butter carving is an artistic activity in which frozen butter is used.

Kumbum monastery

The butter carving of the Kumbum Monastery or Tar or Ta'ersi Monastery (Chinese: Ta'ersi suyouhua 塔尔寺 酥油花) in Huangzhong County 湟 中Kreis in the Chinese province of Qinghai is on the list of the intangible cultural heritage of the People's Republic of China (347 VII-48).
