Buxar is a city in the state of Bihar in eastern India . It is the headquarters of the Buxar district . Buxar has the status of a City Council ( Nagar parishad ). It is approximately 125 km from the state capital Patna . It is on the Ganges . In Buxar, the Bhojpuri language is predominant.

history

In 1764 the Battle of Buxar between the British Empire and the Mughal Empire took place here. The victory of the British represented an important milestone towards the later British dominance on the Indian subcontinent.

Demographics

According to the 2011 census, the population of the city is 102,861 and that of the agglomeration is 110,881. Buxar has a gender ratio of 895 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus typical for India. The literacy rate was 83.08% in 2011, well above the regional and national average. Almost 87% of the population are Hindus and around 12% are Muslim . 13.8% of the population are children under 6 years of age.

Infrastructure

Buxar Station is on the Patna to Mughalsarai line of the Hoara to Delhi main line .
