Bynum is a former census-designated place in Calhoun County in the state of Alabama in the United States and is now part of the city of Oxford .
geography
Bynum is located in northeast Alabama in the southern United States. Since the incorporation it forms the western part of Oxford . Bynum is located approximately 20 kilometers west of the 1,389 square kilometer Talladega National Forest .
history
Bynum was named after a family who settled here in the 1840s. A post office was opened in 1884. Bynum has been part of the city of Oxford since 1970.

US Highway 78 and Alabama State Route 4 run centrally through Bynum on the same route , and Interstate 20 also runs south of the local area .
Talladega Municipal Airport is 4 kilometers southwest , and Anniston Regional Airport is 5 kilometers east .
Demographics
The 2000 census showed a population of 1863, divided between 734 households and 546 families. The population density was 218 people per square kilometer. 87% of the population were white, 10% black, 0.7% Indian and 0.2% Asian. 0.5% were of a different ethnicity , 1.7% had two or more races, 1.4% were Hispanics or Latin Americans of any ethnicity. For every 100 women there were 95 men. The median age was 37 years and the per capita income was $ 17,194, which means 10.5% of the population lived below the poverty line.
