C ++ Builder is a Rapid Application Development - IDE for programming in the programming language C ++ . C ++ Builder was originally developed by Borland and has been developed by Embarcadero Technologies since 2009 .
Details
Windows NT ( IA-32 and x64 ), macOS , Android and iOS are supported as target platforms . As GUI toolkits are available as standard VCL (Windows only) and FMX (Windows, macOS, Android, iOS) is available.
C ++ Builder allows the programmer to develop native applications for each of these platforms. In addition to C ++ source texts, modules that are available in the Object Pascal programming language can also be used and compiled .
C ++ Builder contains extensive tools that enable visual development using drag and drop ( WYSIWYG ).
From version XE2, which appeared in August 2011, cross-platform features are included in the C ++ Builder that enable the development of native applications for macOS , Apple iOS (since XE5) and Android (since XE6). In addition, since a subsequent update of version XE3, C ++ Builder has a 64-bit compiler for Windows; from version XE4 it was equipped with it as standard.
C ++ Builder was developed by Borland for a long time , until in 2007 it spun off its software development tools department under the name CodeGear . Codegear was again taken over by Embarcadero in 2009. C ++ Builder is sold both as a stand-alone product and as part of RAD Studio .
Borland C ++ BuilderX is often confused with C ++ Builder, but despite the similarity of names, it comes from a completely different product line: C ++ BuilderX is based on the JBuilder code and is therefore programmed in Java . With C ++ Builder, it essentially only has the supplied C ++ compiler in common. However, C ++ BuilderX could not prevail against the VCL variants, has lost much of its importance in recent years and, in contrast to the C ++ Builder, is not actively developed further.
Since version 10.1 Berlin from April 2016, there has been a change back to an annual publication cycle.
