The C + C Schaper GmbH was a pick-up wholesale market (Cash & Carry) for wholesale company in Hannover furnished, the restaurant, hotel and food trade.

history

The company was founded in October 1879 by Adolf Schaper in Hanover as a grocery store.

In 1959, Schaper opened the first Cash + Carry wholesale store in Hanover. In the following years the wholesale business expanded. In addition, retail stores, such as the extra , were founded and expanded. However, the backbone of the company was the wholesale sector.

In 1987, Schaper was taken over by the ASKO group. The Metro Group bought ASKO in 1996 and gave Schaper a new profile. Since then, C + C Schaper GmbH has concentrated on cash & carry wholesale markets with delivery services.

While Metro Cash & Carry operates stores over 10,000 m², the small units up to 5,000 m² are managed by Schaper. These were mostly located in medium-sized and small towns. The major stores of Metro C + C have only had a delivery service since 2009.

After new openings, takeovers and closings, the Schaper sales network was spread across 51 locations throughout Germany. About 2000 people were employed.

The head office in Hanover was dissolved on December 31, 2010. The core business was continued, but flowed completely into Metro Cash & Carry. Company manager was Gottfried Drescher.

On May 4, 2015, the Metro Group announced that the Schaper brand should be abandoned. The existing Schaper stores were converted into Metro Gastro by 2016 .
