The Cão Fila de São Miguel is an FCI recognized breed of dog from the Azores , Portugal ( FCI Group 2, Section 2.1, Standard No. 340 ).
Origin and history
The Cão Fila de São Miguel comes from the main island of the Azores , Sao Miguel . His ancestors probably also include the Spanish Alano . Due to the relative isolation, the narrow space of an island and the climatic conditions, a uniform dog type developed . In 1995 it was provisionally recognized by the FCI.
description
A medium-sized to large dog (up to 62 cm, 35 kg), short-haired, is usually brown or ash-gray brindle, white markings on the chest and paws are allowed. In the Azores, the ears are traditionally cropped rounded , so that the dog has a leopard-like appearance. In the natural state, the ears are medium-sized and pendulous.
