Cäcilie Zeller

Cäcilie Zeller (born von Elsner; born August 23, 1800 in Halberstadt , † March 24, 1876 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German poet .

Life

Zeller was born as the daughter of Lieutenant General Karl Christian von Elsner in Halberstadt. After the early death of her first husband, the Baden business owner Wilhelm von Meyern (or Maiern) in 1826, she married the preacher Zeller in Stäfa near Zurich in 1834 . After he died in 1839, she lived in Halle (Saale) until the end of her life. In her poems she also dealt with the political debates of her time. Many of her poems were set to music and are still sung in many parishes today.
