The Cämmerer See is an approximately 18 hectare lake south of Peenemünde . The average depth of the lake is 1.1 meters, the greatest depth is around 3.5 meters.

The lake was originally a bay on the Peene River . It was created when dykes were built during the construction of the Peenemünde Army Research Center . The bottom of the lake is covered by an average 1.1 meter thick layer of mud that was created by dumps from the time before the dyke was built and ash from the Peenemünde power plant .

Today the lake is used as a bathing and fishing water. The " Usedom Nature Trail " leads past its banks .
