Celestine Teschler

Cölestin Teschler (born December 28, 1681 as Anton Teschler ; † September 12, 1718 in Wasserburg ) was the librarian of the St. Gallen monastery from 1711 to 1718 .

Father Cölestin came from Teschlihusen ( Lömmenschwil ). In 1693 he is attested in the monastery of St. Gallen, where he made his profession on August 10, 1698 . In 1703 he became a subdeacon , in 1704 a deacon . He was ordained a priest on May 29, 1706, the primacy followed on June 13 of the same year.

As a frater, Teschler was already active as a lecturer in philosophy at the convent school. From 1708 he gave lectures on theology, since 1711 on canon law. In 1711 he was also appointed librarian. In this role he made a contribution to the rescue of the library, the holdings of which were endangered due to the looting of the monastery in the course of the Toggenburg War. After returning from exile, Father Cölestin tried to rebuild the monastery library. He was highly valued by the population as a theologian and pastor.
