Bernhard Frank von Frankenberg (born April 7, 1692 - † February 11, 1763 ) was the librarian of the St. Gallen monastery from 1722 to 1729 .

Life

Bernhard Frank von Frankenberg was born in Innsbruck as the son of the Upper Austrian regimental secretary Josef Frank and Maria Caecilia Höfferin . In 1707 he entered the Benedictine Abbey of St. Gallen, where he made his profession in 1710 . In 1716 he was ordained a priest. Then he was a teacher of philosophy and theology in the St. Gallen monastery. In 1729, Bernhard Frank von Frankenberg studied and obtained his doctorate in Rome . His subject was canon law . In 1731 he was appointed as exegesis professor , traveled to Constance because of the jurisdiction dispute between the diocese and the prince abbey of St. Gallen and was promoted to official . In 1742 he was appointed abbot coadjutor of Disentis with succession rights. In 1743 he received the benediction to abbot by Nuncio Carlo Francesco Durini . He was increasingly used by the abbot for business.

Act

Bernhard Frank was initially heavily involved in the Constance trade. On this matter, he had to travel to Rome again in 1741. It was about the transfer of jurisdiction in parts of the prince abbey of St. Gallen from Constance to St. Gallen. Then Bernhard Frank became Abbot of Disentis, as which he was very popular. He was considered a great promoter of the monastic liturgy , was a respected lawyer and politician . For this purpose he wrote theological and philosophical works. He maintained close contact with the Habsburg court in Vienna. In 1750 he opened a college in Sondrio (Valtellina), which, however, soon had to be closed again at the urging of the Protestant Graubünden rulers. Bernhard Frank strengthened the reputation of the prince abbey , ensured discipline and order and protected the immunity of the monastery.
