Life

CD Abbott was first violinist for Christy's Minstrels in 1847 . In 1849 he was first violinist with the Campbell Minstrels . In January of that year they made guest appearances at the American Hall in Hartford and in February at the Concert Hall in Buffalo. Before that, they made guest appearances in New York for five months. In addition to pieces from well-known operas, they also performed compositions from CD Abbott's. In the following years he toured the United States with the ensemble. From December 1854 to March 1855 he was musical director with the Christy's Minstrels in San Francisco . In 1855 he became a member of the Backus Minstrels and went with them on a world tour that took him to Mexico, South America and Australia. In the course of this they made guest appearances in Honolulu in September of that year. From October 2nd, 1855, they played for several weeks at the Royal Victoria Theater in Sydney and on December 3rd and 4th at Coppin's Olympic in Melbourne . At the beginning of 1856 they made guest appearances in Tasmania, in January in Hobart and in February in Launceston . In mid-February they went back to Melbourne and on April 5, 1856 the Backus Minstrels gave their farewell concert at the Royal Victoria Theater in Sydney. Now he went on tour again to the east coast of the USA and to New York. From September 1856 to March 1858 he traveled through various mining cities in North America and until 1859 he stayed again in San Francisco. Abbott later rejoined the Campbell Minstrels . So in 1862 she again toured the United States. They made guest appearances on March 13 and 14 at the Metropolitan Hall in Davenport and on March 17 and 18, 1862 in the Tremont Hall in Muscatine . In contrast to the earlier concert tours, where all eight artists were usually named in the advance notice, in 1862 only CD Abbott was listed as a soloist in the advance notice. Abbott died on March 20, 1864 in La Salle, Illinois.
