The CASA C-207 Azor ( Spanish for hawk ) was a twin-engine transport and airliner made by the Spanish manufacturer Construcciones Aeronáuticas SA in the 1950s and 60s. The plane could carry up to 40 people. In addition to two prototypes, 20 series models were produced in Getafe , which were purchased by the Spanish government and used as the T.7 by the air forces . Since the airlines were no longer interested in aircraft with piston engines at that time, no civilian customers could be won.
history
In 1951, the Spanish government commissioned CASA to build two prototypes of a commercial aircraft for 30 to 40 passengers. The machine should be used on short and medium distances. The design was based on the smaller predecessor model Halcón . The maiden flight of the first prototype took place on September 28, 1955.
The ten aircraft of the version C-207A went to the Spanish Air Force as T.7A and were set up as troop transports for 38 soldiers. The other ten series models were made from 1961 and were given the designation C-207C and T.7B. They had a side cargo door and could both transport cargo and drop off up to 37 paratroopers.
The last machine was delivered in 1968. In the 1980s, the Spanish Air Force decommissioned the last aircraft and replaced them with the C-212 .
construction
The Azor was designed as a low wing all-metal aircraft in half-shell construction. It had a retractable tricycle landing gear. Initially, two piston engines from ENMASA and later from Pratt & Whitney were provided as drive . Instead, the series models received two Hercules - radial engines of the British manufacturer Bristol .
