CFB Gagetown
Canadian Forces Base Gagetown , (short: CFB Gagetown) is a large military base of the Canadian Army about 3 km east of the small town of Oromocto , New Brunswick . The capital of the Canadian province, Fredericton , is about 20 km west of the base.
history
At the beginning of the Cold War , Canadian military planners recognized the need to build a training area on which the Canadian Army, infantry and artillery could carry out exercises. This was seen as preparation for their use to protect Western Europe as Canada's contribution to NATO . The system should have good access to transport routes and be usable every year. The base was built in 1958 as a military training area.

The base has an area of 1,100 square kilometers of military training area. 1,500 km of roads, 740 buildings and approx. 6,000 employees as military or civilian personnel on the main base, as well as other smaller military installations for which the base is responsible and which are spread across the province. CFB Gagetown is the second largest military base in Canada and the largest military facility in the eastern area.
