CFB Shilo

The Canadian Forces Base Shilo (CFB Shilo) or Base des Forces canadiennes Shilo (BFC Shilo) is a military base and training ground for the Canadian armed forces and their allies. The base is located approximately 35 km east of Brandon , Manitoba , Canada . It is operated by the Canadian Department of National Defense (DND) and has a helipad . The Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (RCA) is also located here .

In addition to the regular soldiers who train regularly at the base, there are also reserve units and soldiers from other NATO countries such as B. France , Germany , Denmark , the United States and the United Kingdom .

history

The area of ​​the CFB Shilo was used as a training area for the military as early as 1910. After the outbreak of the First World War , it was expanded. Initially, ammunition and shooting exercises were held there, but these were discontinued a short time later because they met with discontent among the neighboring population. From 1942, the area was used by parachutists as a training area. In the following years, various units, including those from NATO allies, trained at the base. The Bundeswehr used the facility between 1974 and 2000.
