Arto Blomsten (born March 16, 1965 in Vaasa , Finland ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player who played for the Winnipeg Jets and Los Angeles Kings in the National Hockey League from 1983 to 2000 .
Career
Arto Blomsten began his career as an ice hockey player at Djurgårdens IF , for whose professional team he was active from 1983 to 1993 in the Elitserien , the highest Swedish division. With Djurgården he won the Swedish championship in the seasons 1988/89 , 1989/90 and 1990/91 . At European level, he and his team also won the European Ice Hockey Cup in 1990 and 1991 . For the 1993/94 season , the defender joined the Winnipeg Jets , who had selected him in the NHL Entry Draft 1986 in the twelfth round as a total of 239th player. In the Jets, however, he was just as unable to prevail in the National Hockey League as in their league rivals Los Angeles Kings . Instead, he played from 1993 to 1996 mainly for their farm teams Moncton Hawks and Springfield Falcons from the American Hockey League and Phoenix Roadrunners from the International Hockey League . Most recently, the left-shot ended his career in the Swedish Elitserien, in which he played for Västra Frölunda HC and Västerås IK for two years before ending his career in 2000 at the age of 35.
International
For Sweden , Blomsten took part in the 1985 U20 World Junior Championship . He was also in his country's squad at the 1992 and 1993 World Championships . At the 1992 World Cup he and his team won the gold medal and the silver medal at the 1993 World Cup.
