The DJJ2 China Star ( Chinese  中華 之 星  /  中华 之 星 , Pinyin Zhōnghuá zhī Xīng  - "Star of China") is a high-speed train developed in China , of which only a prototype was produced. It is considered the first high-speed train in China to be developed without the help of foreign companies.

The DJJ2 was designed and built by a consortium led by Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Works . It is a further development of the DJJ1 Blue Arrow series trains built for the Guangshen Railway , which were built with the help of Adtranz . These trains only ran 1st class and consisted of a powered end car , six intermediate cars and a control car . Compared to the DD1, both the number of cars and the drive power per car have been increased in the DD2. Second class was also introduced.

The China Star consists of two powered end cars , a dining car , two 1st class intermediate cars and six 2nd class intermediate cars. A powered end car is 21.7 meters long, a middle car 25.5 meters, and the entire train 272.9 meters. The two power cars are connected by a roof line. Each drive end is driven by four asynchronous motors , each with an output of 1200 kW, which are supplied with energy by two water-cooled GTO converters.

The DD2 was completed in September 2002 and was designed for a top speed of 270 km / h. During a test run on November 27, 2002 on the Qinshen Passenger Railway , between Qinhuangdao and Shenyang , the China Star reached 321.5 km / h, which was a record for Chinese rail traffic. Between January 2003 and December 2004, the train completed more than 500,000 test kilometers without passengers on the newly opened high-speed line from Qinhuangdao to Shenyang .

Officially, no reasons were given as to why the multiple unit did not go into series production, but continued construction was probably not carried out due to the lack of reliability of the technology. For example, the train had to return to the depot one day after the record run because a warehouse imported from France had triggered an excess temperature alarm. The planned demonstration drive with the then Railway Minister Fu Zhihuan could therefore not take place.

The DDJ2 was nevertheless used in passenger service from August 2005, with the maximum speed limited to 160 km / h. The train was based in Shenyang and ran between Shenyang and Shanhaiguan . The train was taken out of service in August 2006 and parked in Shenyang until the end of 2009. In early 2010 he was transferred to Tonghua . At least part of the train is currently in the Beijing Railway Museum near the CARS test ring in the northeast of the city.
