COMOS

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

COMOS is a plant engineering software solution from Siemens AG . This software is mainly used in the process industry for planning, operating and maintaining process engineering systems and their asset management .

history

The software system COMOS ( acronym for Com ponent O bject S erver) was originally developed by the company Logotec Software GmbH, later innotec GmbH (founded in 1991 and headquartered in Schwelm developed) and marketed. The first version came out in 1996. In 2008 innotec GmbH was taken over by the Siemens group, COMOS is being further developed and marketed internationally by a subsidiary, Siemens Industry Software GmbH. The current status is COMOS generation 10.

Product features

COMOS was originally developed as an integrated CAE system for engineering in plant construction : all process engineering trades and the EMSR technology disciplines involved should be able to work together seamlessly on one system platform.

COMOS has the characteristics of object orientation , central data management and open system architecture. Interfaces enable integration into existing IT infrastructures or cooperation with supplementary software systems. The COMOS software system is based on a central data platform and contains combinable applications. These help with the planning, construction, operation and decommissioning of industrial plants.

application areas

On the one hand, the software is used by system planners (e.g. EPC ) to plan systems in the process industry (chemicals, energy, water / wastewater, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, food, etc.). On the other hand, also by the operators of systems in the sectors mentioned, since COMOS not only supports planning, but also operational processes. User conferences take place regularly. Due to its architecture, COMOS is suitable for engineering: it can manage large amounts of data and make them consistently available. Siemens is involved in the standardization of export and import interfaces ( DEXPI - Data Exchange in the Process Industry), an initiative together with BASF , Bayer , Covestro and Evonik .

Range of functions

The software system has a modular structure. The functionalities of the COMOS platform support the digitization of a system, for example through the object-oriented database and a special layer technology that allows joint and consistent work on data or documents. Changes to object properties or attributes can be made in data sheets as well as different screen masks. Mass inquiries and mass changes are also possible.

Process engineering processes are designed with COMOS Process. Thanks to the connection to common process simulators , the process data is defined in an early planning phase with the help of process flow diagrams and merged with the engineering of process engineering systems . This data can then be specified more precisely using a further module. The pipeline planning on the basis of pipeline and instrumentation flow diagrams is carried out using specified industry standards for the respective pipe classes . In the further geometric planning through isometrics , data is exchanged on the basis of ISO 15926 . The end result is the virtual 3D design of the system.

COMOS Automation is used for the electrical planning of systems up to their complete automation: Electrical, measurement, control and regulation ( EMSR ) relevant processes are covered. Function plans and sequences can be produced according to current standards, sequence controls can also be created graphically. This information can be transferred directly to process control systems such as B. Simatic PCS 7 can be exchanged.

COMOS Operations supports plant operation after commissioning . Planning data can be used and expanded in the operating phase. There are solutions for maintenance during operation, during inspections or maintenance shutdowns. Repairs or maintenance measures carried out can be reported directly from the field to the central system using mobile maintenance processes.

Comprehensible management of documents and data is possible with COMOS Lifecycle. It meets the strict requirements of the FDA authority . The information can be worked with across the world via secure access options.

Plant personnel can be trained by visualizing and simulating 3D virtual reality models and corresponding training scenarios with COMOS Walkinside. Walkinside was developed by the 3D specialist VRcontext and was integrated into the software through the takeover of the company by the Siemens group in 2012.
