CORAgE is the only album by the Heidelberg rapper Cora E. It was released in March 1998.

Emergence

The rapper Cora E. had since the beginning of her career in 1988 released several singles from 1993; there was also a contribution to the sampler Kill the Nation with a Groove . The opportunity to record an album came about by chance.

“I never really had to say, 'I'm a rapper and now I also want to do an LP'. All elements of hip-hop have always been important to me, and rapping was just part of it. I was content with what was coming, taking what and what was there. To make an LP at all had been more or less ripe for me since last year, when I had the opportunity to work with a lot of interesting people. B. on tour with De La Soul , I was in New York and recorded with the Rock Steady Crew . "

She also wanted to have as much influence as possible on the musical design of the CD. This, as well as her profession, which is set within psychiatry, and the large number of producers she worked with, contributed to the relatively late release. The album title is a play on words from the rapper's artist name and the French word "courage" (German: courage).

Recordings

The recordings took place in the True Business Studio in Bad Oeynhausen , in the Mr. Wiggles at Home in the Bronx and in the Exit Studio Berlin. With the Stieber Twins , Busy, X-Tended Spirit and the Wiggles, a total of four producer teams contributed to the creation of the album. On the first track, the music comes from Cora's former house producer Marius No.1 . Akim Walta from MZEE Productions acted as executive producer . Guest rappers on the album are Curse , the Stieber Twins and Taino Tactics.

layout

The cover is mostly brown. On the right it shows the upper body of the artist, who is wearing a jacket and has sunglasses in her hair. Her hair hangs partly on her face and partly behind her left ear. The silhouette of a high-rise estate can be seen out of focus in the background. Scratch marks can be seen at the top left, as well as a short, black bar with graffiti-like white letters like “CORA” and a small e, the latter in a circle. In the lower half of the picture, in front of a slightly sloping, shaded bar, the lettering in the form of graffiti "CORAGE" protrudes, with the G being red and the other letters being white.

The colors beige, blue, light gray, red and yellow ocher dominate the booklet. There are partially white graffiti, as well as blurry pictures of Cora E. with Taino Tactics and some texts, but not in the order of the album.

Lyrics and music

Most of the lyrics on the album can be assigned to Conscious Rap. The intro at full control is given by Curse. Cora E. then explains, among other things, that this album is not about getting into the charts.

Suicide tells the story of a man who commits suicide. In latchkey it comes to their youth and especially the separation of their parents. Show me is a declaration of love to an unspecified man. … And the MC Is Female addresses her role as a woman within the hip-hop scene.

promotion

Schlüsselkind was released as a single in 1997. Show me followed in 1998 and … and the MC is female . Videos were also made for the first two. In “ Schlüsselkind ” she performs the piece against a white background while she is surrounded by three dancers. At Show it me you can usually see the rapper on a park bench, in between scenes from a film that is set in a psychiatric hospital and which is about a love story in which a doctor falls in love with an inmate. However, this video does not include the verse rapped by Curse.
