history

1911 to 1945

The club was founded in 1911. At that time, Stiring-Wendel, like the rest of the Reichsland Alsace-Lorraine , was part of the German Empire under its German name Stieringen-Wendel . After Lorraine had to be ceded to France after the end of the First World War, the club came into French gaming. When the National Socialists occupied Lorraine in World War II, CS Stiring-Wendel came back into German gaming operations. The qualification for the Gauliga Westmark was denied them.

1949-1987

Before the end of the war, the club returned to French gaming operations. In the 1948/49 season, the CS Stiring-Wendel played in the Division d'Honneur . That season they finished ninth in the table. In the following season, the club from the border town took tenth place in the table. In the next two years, the team occupied places four and two, before being promoted to the CFA in the 1952/53 season . In the CFA 2 season 1953/54 the Lothringer occupied tenth place in the table, which was synonymous with direct relegation. Stiring-Wendel played in the d'Honneur division until 1960, before being promoted again. In the 1960/61 season, the club from the border town, tied in front of the second team from Racing Strasbourg , took first place in the table. However, they were denied advancement. In the following season, Stiring-Wendel rose again to the Division d'Honneur, where they played until 1966; then even the descent from the d'Honneur division followed. In 1969 the ascent followed. In the 1969/70 season the club from Lorraine finished fifth in the table, only to be relegated from the " DH " a year later as twelfth in the table .

It was not until 1974 before the club again ran into the Division d'Honneur; in the 1974/75 season, the club occupied eighth place in the table. In the following season, he was promoted to Division 4 ; In that season, the club from Stiring-Wendel prevailed against their neighbor from Forbach , US Forbach , and took the lead.

In the seasons 1976/77 and 1977/78 they occupied places 13 and 14, the latter being synonymous with direct relegation. Then they played in Division 4 , where they finished fifth in the 1978/79 season. Until 1981, the Lorraine played two more seasons in this division; while in 1980 they finished tenth in the table, Stiring-Wendel reached only 13th place in the table in 1981, which was equivalent to relegation to the Division d'Honneur.

The club played there until 1987, only to be relegated from the " DH " as bottom of the table (14th place in the table) .
