Cañadón Anchorage

Cañadón Anchorage (English; in Argentina Fondeadero Cañadón ; in Chile Fondeadero Ábrego ) is a natural harbor on the north coast of Gibbs Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands .

Scientists from an Argentine Antarctic expedition (1954–1955) named it. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee translated this designation into English in 2003. The further naming background has not been passed down. Chilean scientists, however, named them after Francisco Ábrego Diamantti, an officer on board the ship Covadonga during the 11th Chilean Antarctic Expedition (1956–1957), who had made a landing on Peter I Island .
