Ca 'Amalteo is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Sestiere San Polo with a view of the Rio di San Stin and the Rio San Polo next to the Ca 'Donà a San Stin and opposite the Palazzo Corner Mocenigo .

history

The building dates from the end of the 16th century. It still belongs to the Amalteo family , who originally came from Oderzo . It was not until the 19th century that it belonged to the Venetian patriciate, thanks to Austrian rule. But even before that, many well-known writers and poets emerged from this family. Her best-known offspring, however, was Ottavio Amalteo (1543–1627), a doctor known throughout Europe.

description

Ca 'Amalteo is a four-storey palace with the first baroque influences . The main facade is that of the Rio di San Stin . On the ground floor it has a round arched portal to the water with keystones in the middle, flanked on both sides by several rectangular and oval windows on the ground floor and mezzanine . On the right side of the facade there is another, similar portal to the water. The two main floors have Venetian windows in the middle , with a single arched window on each side. The Venetian windows are provided with protruding balconies with stone balustrades . This ensemble is flanked on each side by three individual arched windows, the inner pair of which on the first main floor is also provided with protruding stone balconies. On the roof above the serrated eaves there is a large dormer window with a rectangular double window. To the left of this there is a large chimney with two pipes.

The individual floors are separated by cornices , which, like the frames of the windows, are made of Istrian limestone .
