Cache Creek is a village in the southern part of the Canadian province of British Columbia . Cache Creek is important as a traffic junction between Highways 1 and 97 and the end point of Highway 99 .

Cache Creek is located in southern British Columbia on the Thompson Plateau. The Bonaparte River flows through Cache Creek , south of the municipality the Fraser River . Numerous plant fossils from the Eocene , including Dillhoffia and Trochodendron drachuckii, have been found in the municipality's area .

history

Cache Creek had historical significance as a stopover on the old Cariboo Road . A small village developed out of this. The official establishment, in the form of the granting of local self-government , for the settlement took place on February 25, 1959 ( incorporated as Local District Municipality ). On November 28, 1967, the status of the municipality then changed to a Village Municipality (comparable to a village).

Demographics

The last official census , the 2016 Census , showed a population of 963 inhabitants for the settlement, after the 2011 census for the municipality still showed a population of 1,040 inhabitants. The population increased by 7.4% compared to the last census in 2011 and thus developed significantly against the provincial average, there with a population increase of 5.6%. In the census period from 2006 to 2011, the number of inhabitants in the municipality had stagnated with an increase of 0.3%, while the provincial average increased by 7.0%.

At the 2016 census, the average age of the residents was 49.5 years, well above the provincial average of 42.3 years. The median age of the residents was determined to be well above average 54.9 years. The median age of all residents in the province in 2016 was 43.0 years. For the 2011 census, a median age of 51.0 years was determined for the residents of the municipality and 41.9 years for the residents of the province.

traffic

Traffic has traditionally been important to Cache Creek. In Cache Creek , the Cariboo Road branches off North from Highway 1, the Trans-Canada Highway , and is part of Highway 97. Cariboo Road leads to 100 Mile House . In addition, 11 km north of the town center, Highway 99 meets Cariboo Road, which comes from Vancouver and Whistler .

Highway 1, which has a common route with Highway 97 coming from the south, meets Highway 97C about 5 km south of the town center. Highway 97C, the so-called Okanagan Connector, opens up the area between Greater Kelowna and Cache Creek.

From the junction of Highway 97, the Trans-Canada Highway heads east and follows the course of the Fraser River towards Kamloops .
