Cachiungo (also Kachiungo , Katchiungo or Catchiungo ) is a village and a district in Angola .

history

The place had the Portuguese colonial name Bela Vista. After Angola's independence in 1975, it was given its current name.

administration

Cachiungo is the seat of a district of the same name ( Município ) in the province of Huambo . The district has an area of ​​2947 km² and around 110,000 inhabitants (2013 estimate). The 2014 census is now to provide accurate population data.

The district consists of three municipalities (Comunas):

Cachiungo is located on the Benguela Railway, built between 1899 and 1929 . After it suffered destruction in the course of the Angolan civil war (1975-2002) and was largely shut down, it was rebuilt after the end of the civil war. Since 2006, Cachiungo has been reached again by rail traffic.
