Cactus and Succulent Specialist Group

The Cactus and Succulent Specialist Group ( CSSG for short ) is an association of botanists , plant lovers and horticultural owners founded in 1984 who are dedicated to the preservation and sustainable use of cacti and succulent plants . The group is a member of the Species Survival Commission (SSC) of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN). Héctor Manuel Hernández Macías (* 1954) is the group's president and Wolfgang Hermann Stuppy (* 1966) is its secretary.

The Cactus and Succulent Specialist Group was created as part of a collaboration with the species protection department of the International Organization for Succulent Research . Its first president was Edward Frederick Anderson . In 1997 the so-called “Action Plan” was published, which deals extensively with the protection of the succulent species in the families of the Agavaceae , Aizoaceae , Aloaceae , Asclepiadaceae , Cactaceae , Crassulaceae , Euphorbiaceae and Portulacaceae .
