The Café Keese in Hamburg was founded in 1948 as a dance hall on the Reeperbahn by Bernhard Keese. The address on the reverse is Seilerstraße.

The lettering Ermisch-Haus is affixed to both sides in raised letters .

history

In the post-war period , Café Keese was a dance venue, especially for single people. The Paradox ball became known nationwide . Here it was not the men who asked the women to dance, but the other way around, which was very unusual at the time. In addition, many men had died in the war or were still in captivity, so that there were more single women than men. Numbered desk telephones made contact possible.

The last operator died in 1998. The Keese café was no longer financially viable and the dance hall had to close. The object went to the Osmanis .

Café Keese has been used for various types of events since 2002 : in the basement for the Lonely Hearts Ball , towards the Reeperbahn for the Quatsch Comedy Club , and in the basement at the back for clubs such as 16 Monkeys , Bodrum Club , Bar Morphine or Tunnel .

In 2008 the lettering on the back disappeared - a distinguishing feature of the dance hall. As part of a new use, the facade was painted over with red paint and the old lettering was erased.

The fishmonger Jürgen Gosch leased the property from Burim Osmani and ran “The most sinful fish stall in the world” from Easter 2013 to October 1, 2014 with around 160 seats on 600 m² inside plus street sales on a terrace for 60 to 80 guests. Serious changes were made to the back and especially to the front. The old “Café Keese” sign on the Reeperbahn has been preserved in a modified form. The restaurant closed after a good 1½ years, as the financial success did not materialize.

In December 2015, the Munich restaurant chain Sausalitos Holding GmbH opened a branch on the Reeperbahn as the new leaseholder .
