The Sausalitos branch on Färberstrasse in Nuremberg (2010)

Sausalitos is a German restaurant chain that offers food and drinks from the Californian - Mexican cuisine (Cal-Mex). The first restaurant opened in Ingolstadt in 1994 . At the beginning of 2017 there were 37 restaurants in Germany, two years later there were 43 with the aim of further expansion, especially in cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants. Sausalitos was founded by the couple Gunilla and Thomas Hirschberger. The name Sausalitos supposedly refers to the place Sausalito in the US state of California. In 2014 the founders sold the company to a financial investor.

The Sausalitos branches usually comprise four areas: a bar, a bistro, a restaurant and a terrace or beer garden. The visual appearance is characterized by the so-called "Santa Fe style". Regular parties are part of the concept. The menu of a sausalito includes dishes such as burritos , fajitas or quesadillas , as well as various burgers and seasonal dishes. When it comes to drinks, the focus is on cocktails .
